Mountain Stream Getaway

A Scenic Escape at Mountain Stream RV Park: Another Memorable Lady Mantis Adventure with a Black Mountain Twist

This summer, I took my Lady Mantis on another unforgettable journey, this time to the Mountain Stream RV Park at 6954 Buck Creek Rd, Marion, NC. Every trip just keeps getting better as I continue to refine my setup and make the Mantis feel like a home away from home. The experience was made even more special by the stunning riverside location and the proximity to the charming town of Black Mountain. One of the main reasons I decided to purchase the Taxa Mantis travel trailer was the ability to enjoy the comforts of home—my own sheets, cozy blankets, and yes, even my favorite coffee mugs! (I’ve become quite attached to my mug collection.) All while still being able to visit breathtaking locations like this without the hassle of packing into a hotel room that may or may not meet my cleanliness standards.

The Joys of RV Living with the Lady Mantis

This trip highlighted everything I love about having my Lady Mantis. Whether it’s waking up in the morning to the sound of the river, sipping coffee in one of my favorite mugs on the deck overlooking the water, or coming back after a day of exploring and enjoying the comfort of my own sheets, it feels like a cozy little home no matter where I park. The beauty of this setup is that I can still have access to remote, scenic locations without compromising on cleanliness or comfort.

And when I’m ready to head out for some adventure, I simply unhook my Jeep Wrangler (affectionately named Willie May) and explore nearby attractions. Whether it’s hiking in the Pisgah National Forest or heading into Black Mountain, it’s the perfect blend of comfort and adventure.

Riverside Serenity at Mountain Stream RV Park

The site I stayed at in Mountain Stream RV Park featured a deck overlooking the river, which became my favorite spot to unwind. The soothing sound of the water and the surrounding natural beauty made every moment feel peaceful and rejuvenating. This park, nestled in the heart of Pisgah National Forest, offers a truly intimate and tranquil experience for campers looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

Here’s what made this RV park special:

  • Riverside Decks: Several sites come with private decks that offer amazing views of the river, adding an extra touch of luxury to your stay.

  • Pristine Facilities: The bathhouses and campground grounds are exceptionally clean, making it feel like a true retreat.

  • Friendly Hosts: The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Exploring Nearby Black Mountain

While Mountain Stream RV Park provides the perfect setting for relaxation, it’s also just a 25-minute drive to Black Mountain, a quaint mountain town known for its artistic flair and welcoming atmosphere. The downtown area is filled with locally owned shops, art galleries, and restaurants, making it a great place to explore.

Things to Do in Black Mountain

  1. Downtown Shopping: Black Mountain is home to boutique shops, art galleries, and unique stores like Seven Sisters Gallery, where you can find handcrafted jewelry and pottery, and Town Hardware & General Store, a nostalgic stop that feels like stepping back in time.

  2. Black Mountain Center for the Arts: Art lovers should check out this community center, featuring rotating exhibitions and hands-on workshops.

Dining in Black Mountain

After exploring the town, there’s no shortage of dining options. Whether you’re in the mood for casual comfort food or something more upscale, Black Mountain has plenty to offer.

  • Dynamite Roasting Co.: Start your morning with a delicious cup of locally roasted coffee in a cozy, eco-conscious café.

  • Veranda Café & Gifts: A perfect lunch spot, Veranda serves up fresh sandwiches and homemade soups in a relaxed setting.

  • Trailhead Restaurant & Bar: If you're looking for a laid-back atmosphere with mountain views, Trailhead offers casual American fare with local ingredients.

  • The Red Rocker Inn: For a fine dining experience, this historic inn offers Southern-inspired dishes and warm hospitality, ideal for a special evening.

Final Thoughts: A Scenic Getaway That Feels Like Home

Whether you’re looking to unwind by the river, explore a quaint mountain town, or enjoy the beauty of Pisgah National Forest, this area offers it all. And with my Lady Mantis, it truly felt like a home away from home.
