A Perfect Family Adventure: Pigeon Forge TN


KOA Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg: River Rafting, Dollywood, and More

This past August, I took my Lady Mantis out again for another adventure—this time to the KOA Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg campground, staying in one of their luxury Patio sites. These larger sites come with patio furniture, a fire pit, and plenty of space to relax after a day of exploring the incredible attractions of the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area. From river rafting to moonshine tasting, and even the allure of Dollywood, this trip offered a little bit of everything for a family-friendly yet adventurous getaway.

One of the highlights of my stay was the Lower Pigeon River Scenic Family Float Trips, located at 3595 Hartford Road, Hartford, TN 37753. The Patio site I stayed in was spacious and had plenty of outdoor amenities, like a fire pit, where I could sit back and unwind after busy days. This KOA campground also has a pool, playground, and dog park, ensuring there’s something for everyone—whether you’re traveling with kids or pets.

Only about a 10-minute drive from the KOA, Dollywood is a must-visit for families. From thrilling roller coasters to live entertainment and great Southern food, Dollywood offers an all-day experience that’s fun for everyone.

Another fantastic destination, The Island in Pigeon Forge, offers a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. It’s a great stop for adults while the kids enjoy the Ferris wheel or other attractions.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

For outdoor enthusiasts, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a must. It’s just a short drive from the KOA and offers stunning hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and unparalleled mountain vistas. Whether you’re a casual hiker or a seasoned adventurer, the park offers something for everyone.

Titanic Museum

If you’re into history, the Titanic Museum is another popular attraction in Pigeon Forge. Unfortunately, it was sold out during my visit, so be sure to buy tickets in advance to secure your spot.

While I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, I’m already planning my next visit to spend more time exploring Gatlinburg, especially during the winter months for the Gatlinburg Christmas Market. The holiday season transforms this mountain town into a winter wonderland, and I can’t wait to experience the festive atmosphere, charming lights, and cozy mountain setting.
